Polygonal Coffee Kiosk
This project was a tender for an F&B kiosk in the Hong Kong International Airport. There are several requirements for the design. Firstly, to create a new image of this brand. An old-school image has been given to locals because walnut wood and red colour were used in interior design for over 20 years. Hence, we were going to use a light hue in the design this time to create a new image. Besides, local cultural elements were essential because the airport was an excellent place to promote local culture. Material choosing also was a big challenge in this project because there were a lot of restrictions on materiality, most of it should be a high level of fireproof materials which limited the range of choices.

Final Layout Plan
The design of the kiosk was inspired by the shape of the polygon. Its character of many surfaces was very suitable for functional design and marketing graphic design. According to the dimensions of the coffee counter and various catering appliances and requirements, I worked together with my senior designer to develop an irregular shape of layout plan that could fit the functions successfully. I also liaised between internal graphic designers and the marketing team closely as well to study and create aesthetic graphics full of local culture.

Metal collapsible gates were a popular and common type of gate used in various buildings such as factory buildings, commercial stalls and public housing in the 60s to 80s in Hong Kong. The carved patterns of flower patterns on the sliding gates which were a decoration and also could increase the interior ventilation, became a representative of culture in that period. However, fewer and fewer sliding gates can be found nowadays due to crafts not being passed down. Hence, I thought the carved patterns were a quite suitable element to present on the counter to make aesthetic elevations and chose a typical pattern (as the picture showed).
